Premiers’ Reading Challenge

As a school we recommend that our students read at home as often as possible, in an ideal world that would be every day/night. Sometimes there can be a fine line between providing the challenge to improve your child’s reading and making the reading task so arduous that the child loses interest. We want to ensure that your child develops their reading skills to their greatest level whilst maintaining a love of reading. Some of the books your child chooses will be books that they are able to read by themselves, some will be more suitable for you to read together, and some will be best suited for you to read to your child. All these situations are valuable reading experiences for children. The Premiers’ Reading Challenge is another way of encouraging children to read a set number of books over the year and record their efforts online. It’s a great way to get young people talking about reading with their friends and pushing themselves to read as many books as they can. Information has been sent home and posted to Compass including instructions on how your child can login to begin their challenge. We encourage all of our students to participate in the challenge. If you require assistance please speak to your child’s home group teacher or our Literacy Learning Specialist Kate.

Coffee, Cake & Chat

Next Wednesday 8th May we are recommencing our Coffee, Cake & Chat sessions. This is an informal chance for a hot drink, something to eat and an opportunity to have a relaxed chat with parents, community members and members of staff. You can ask questions, suggest something new, tell us what you love about Glengala or just come and say hello. Babies & toddlers are welcome too.

Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea & Craft

Mothers and special women in students’ lives will have received their invites for our special Mothers’ Day Afternoon Tea & Craft session. Please note we need your RSVP no later than Tuesday to allow for catering & material organisation. We look forward to celebrating this special time with many of our families on Friday 10th May.

Our annual Mothers’ Day stall will also be held next Thursday. There will be a range of gifts that your child may purchase. These will include items not labelled with mum or mother to allow for students buying gifts for other special females in their life.
