National Volunteer Week – Thank You
This week is National Volunteer Week. On behalf of all the staff and students at Glengala I would like to say a huge thank you to all the volunteers in our school community that do such a great job assisting. This includes helping on excursions, sports events, fundraising, canteen, breakfast club, school council and other school events. We recognise the valuable contribution of our volunteers, without them we would not be able to provide as many wonderful programs and opportunities for our students. We all really appreciate the effort, time and support you give our school community THANK YOU.

Education Week – Learning in Action
To celebrate Education Week tomorrow we will be holding a Junior School Learning in Action morning from 9am to 11am. The morning will follow our regular timetable allowing parents an opportunity to visit the Foundation and 1/2 Learning Spaces to watch students learning in action. We look forward to seeing many of you there.

Staffing Update
This week two of our staff secured employment with us for the remainder of the year. Milly Pham will continue in the 1/2 Learning Space team and Phoebe Wright will continue in her Social Worker role in the Allied Health Welfare Team.

Yesterday we completed the selection process for a new Social Worker to commence before the end of this term. Susie Rourke was successfully appointed and will work full time at our school. Susie has extensive experience working with people in a range of social work fields, supporting families from culturally diverse backgrounds and will work with students, staff and parents in our community. Susie joins our Allied Health Welfare Team which now includes Psychologist, Speech Therapist and Social Worker specialists along with teaching and education support staff.

Next Friday we will be saying farewell to Josie Leone-Muensang who begins leave as her family grows with the arrival of her 3rd child. Josie will re-join us later in the year. Grant Mussel commences on Monday as Josie’s replacement and new Team Leader of our 3-6 Learning Space. Grant comes with many years of experience teaching in schools in the west, especially in the Senior Years 3/4 and 5/6.

School Tours & Enrolments
Tours of our wonderful school for families interested in enrolling their child in 2019 have begun. Tours are conducted every Thursday morning at 9:15 until the end of the year. If you would like a tour, have friends or neighbours who would like a tour, please contact the school to book a place.
We already have over 20 students in our Foundation class for 2019 so if you have a child due to start in 2019 please complete your enrolment and drop it off at the front office ASAP. Should you know of a child due to start school in 2019 please remind their parents to hand their enrolment forms in too. With our brand new buildings opening next year it is vital we have accurate enrolment numbers to assist with staffing and programming.

NAPLAN
Congratulations to our Year 3 and Year 5 students who applied themselves really well to the NAPLAN tests over the last two weeks. With testing completed online this year students worked extremely well during these tests and tried very hard to demonstrate the skills they have been developing over the recent months and past years at our school. Thank you to Sam who administered all of the NAPLAN testing this year. It ensured that students had the confidence to approach what can be a truly stressful time with confidence and calmness.

If you have questions, feedback or are experiencing any difficulties please don’t hesitate to give Sam or myself a call, send us an email or come and have a chat.
