Library Learning Centre Opening

We are very excited to be opening our new Library Learning Centre tomorrow at 2.15pm. Over 12 months of planning and work has gone into creating this new learning space at our school which is aimed at engaging and stimulating learning for all. The space will house our library including books and various technology to support exploration and deep learning for our students. This space will develop over time and is an exciting addition to our school. If you’re able to drop by to support the opening it will be a good chance to explore the large number of new books available in the space. Thank you to the various staff who have worked tirelessly to transform this exciting space ready for our students.

Staffing Update

Last Friday we farewelled James Milligan who has been working as an Education Support staff member at our school since 2015 in our 5/6 and Prep Learning Spaces. James has commenced a new training apprenticeship program to become a Kindergarten educator.

Last week we welcomed our new Groundskeeper and Maintenance staff member Stephen Miller. Stephen has lots of experience working in these areas and is a qualified carpenter. He will be working five hours a day, two days a week. Stephen is deaf so requires communication via Auslan or writing, however is always happy to have a friendly wave and smile.

Yesterday we completed the selection process for a new Social Worker to commence before the end of this term. Phoebe Wright was successfully appointed and will work two days a week with exact days to be confirmed. Phoebe has extensive experience working with people in a range of social work fields and will work with students, staff and parents in our community. Phoebe will join our welfare team which now includes psychologist, speech therapist and social worker specialists along with teaching and education support staff.

Next Friday we will be saying farewell to our Assistant Principal Samantha Cunningham for the next 12 months as she has been seconded to the Education Department head office in a Senior Project Officer role. We look forward to Sam’s return in 12 months filled with new knowledge and insights from working in the Education Departments head office. We will update the community in our newsletter next week with the staff members who will be taking over Sam’s various welfare roles.

Proud Principal – Book Parade

Yesterday I was proud of the families who supported for our Book Fair dress up day – Pirates. It’s always fun to watch students proudly parading around in front of the community and their peers. It was also great to see staff joining in the fun of the day by coming dressed up too! How lucky we are to have such dedicated staff working at our school.  The last day for Book Fair is tomorrow before and after school in the Library Learning Centre (old school hall).

Reminder: Curriculum Day – Monday 29th May

On this day the teaching staff will complete Professional Learning on our new Instructional Model – The New Art & Science of Teaching with Dr Janelle Wills. Our ES staff will complete Professional Learning on Speech and Language Development with our Speech Therapist Laura Seeley. No students are required at school on Curriculum Days.
