BOOK WEEK –– Open Afternoon Friday 2.30pm
Looking forward to seeing everyone at Book Week Open House this Friday from 2.30pm. We will also be showcasing our online Library System where you can search our library at home so that students can reserve books and see what is on offer in our lovely Library Learning Centre. Book Week is an exciting time to celebrate the role reading has in our lives and share an experience of reading together.

This year we have been able to secure a small number of positions to attend an author’s workshop at the annual Melbourne Writers Festival, with the renowned author and Children’s Laureate Leigh Hobbs. Students who have received an invitation to the Writers Festival Excursion in the 3-6 Learning Space please ensure they are at Sunshine Station by 9.15am on MONDAY.

Thursday 30th August is our annual school concert. This is a free event for all our families to enjoy. Our theme this year is Coming Together, which celebrates our diversity and connections as a community. It will be held at Sunshine Secondary College on Graham St. Please note although this is a school event, students are not in the care of teachers, Parents or authorised guardians MUST BE PRESENT WITH CHILDREN. Students cannot be left unaccompanied by an adult at the concert.

Time to find them, wash them off, and have them ready for 1st September when the Sun Smart hat season starts again. If you would like assistance with purchasing our very affordable hats please come and speak to Kathy, Jenny or Kellie in the office.

Glengala is a family friendly school which prides itself on the connections staff and students have with our community. Our staff come to work each day to support our children to be their best selves. I am very proud of the work we do here, and the care, commitment and pride our staff show in our children. I am asking for your help to ensure that we remain a community who embodies our Values and demonstrates these towards staff, students, parents and community members at all times. We thank our wonderful community for all you do to support us in the work we do, and in support of the learning of our young people. You are their first and best role models!

We remind parents of the importance of road safety around schools at drop off and pick up times. It is very important to use the pedestrian crossings, using responsible road safety skills such as Stop, Look and Listen, Look Left, Right and Left Again before crossing. This week classes have been referring to these strategies to support students to act responsibly around traffic and roads. Please help us by demonstrating these skills to your students at pick up and drop off times. When driving your car please observe the 40km and 20km speed limits which are in force around all schools, as well as observe the parking signs. Parents have been booked recently for not observing these signs so please be vigilant and demonstrate our school values of Respect, Safety and Responsibility at all times around the school.

Congratulations to all the students who participated in the 3-6 athletics carnival in Newport last week. Grant and Rita were very impressed with the behavior and efforts of our students, and although no-one was successful in reaching the regionals it was a clear #GlengalaProud day for all!
