SCHOOL CONCERT THANK YOU
Let me start by saying how FANTASTIC our concert was! It was such an amazing night, definitely the best concert of my time at Glengala. I am so proud of the students, their efforts and their enthusiasm. I am also extremely proud of our staff. We are so lucky to have the dedicated and caring staff that we have here at Glengala who ALL volunteered their time to make the concert happen and support our students. Thank you to our parents and carers who were the BEST AUDIENCE we’ve ever had.
NAPLAN RESULTS – READING SHOWS EXCELLENT GROWTH!
We received our 2018 NAPLAN results last week and from initial evaluation these results show that our student’s Reading Growth from Year 3 to Year 5 is extremely pleasing. This means that the improvement students make in reading over time, in Years 3, 4 and 5 at Glengala are better than those of the national average. This is excellent news. We have Reading as the focus of all our school goals, and Decision Making, and we are starting to see improvement over our long term trends. We will share this data in greater detail on Kris’ return. I thank all our staff, students and families for your continued support of our wonderful school. Families in Years 3 and 5 please note that your child’s individual NAPLAN assessment results are now available for you to personally collect from the office. These results cannot be handed out to students, or posted.
eSmart WEEK PARENT INFORMATION SESSION MONDAY 10TH SEPTEMBER 5.30pm
Families of the 3-6 Learning Space are invited to our eSmart week Digital Technology information session next Monday at 5.30pm in the new 3-6 Learning Space. Grant our Leading Teacher for ICT and our 3-6 Team Leader, will be providing families with information on our 1-1 iPads, how we use technology in the Learning Space and how you can support your children to be safe when using technology at home. Bring your children along so they can share the great things they have been doing in class!
SUNSMART HATS – SEPTEMBER TO APRIL
All students and staff are now required to wear a SunSmart hat when outside between 9am and 3.15pm. A SunSmart hat has a broad rim, and is NOT A CAP. Only school uniform hats are acceptable. If you would like assistance with purchasing our very affordable hats please come and speak to Kathy, Jenny or Kellie in the office.
PLANNING WEEK—THIS WEEK This week staff held Term 4 Planning Week. This means that each team of teachers had one day out of the Learning Space to plan the learning for the following term. On these days a team of specialist teachers rotate students through the specialist program (Art, PE, Inquiry and Science). The final part of the day is a celebration of the school concert. Students and staff view footage of the concert night and reflect on our Performing Arts Program.
SWIMMING NEXT WEEK – SEE THE TIMETABLE ON PAGE 2 FOR YOUR CHILD’S SWIMMING TIMES
A reminder that with Swimming Program beginning next week and running right through to the end of term, here are a few handy hints to make this time as easy to manage as possible;
- PLENTY OF SLEEP– Swimming Program is tiring and students can become sick or cranky if they aren’t getting enough sleep to reboot for the next day. Going to bed early will help them energised to make it through the 2 week program.
- EATING HEALTHY AND NUTRITIOUS FOODS– Plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables will give them the energy they need to make it through the 2 week program. Packing an extra sandwich will help if they become extra hungry during the day, or it could be an easy after school snack if they don’t eat it at school.
- DRY TOWEL, CHANGE OF CLOTHES AND UNDERWEAR, DAILY– It is handy to keep an emergency set of clothes either at school or in their swimming bag. Sometimes dry clothes fall into puddles in the change room or get temporarily packed away in another student’s bag.
- CLEARLY LABEL ALL CLOTHING WITH STUDENTS FULL NAME. When 30 school tops get taken off all at once, it can be difficult to find the right owner. Fully named clothing is easy to return.
- Students with long hair may find it easier to have their hair braided at home, leave the braids in and wash their hair when they get home again. There are no hair-drying facilities or showers to wash hair in the time allocated.
A reminder that swimming is part of the PE curriculum (Year 6) and therefore non-attendance may impact on your child’s PE achievement report.
