Glengala Gazette – Issue #27

We finally have our new building!

It was with great excitement on Tuesday that we finally took possession of our new building!  We have enjoyed watching the progress from demolition to building, and even though it has felt like it has taken forever, it has actually been a relatively smooth and easy building project.  There are still a number of things to be completed in the space, including buying new furniture, before we are able to move in. However, we are hopeful that we will transition our current F-2 students and administration into the new buildings later in Term 4.  This will also mean that we will return to using Mudford Street as the main entrance to the school once the new building is occupied.  We are expecting ongoing groundworks to be completed over the remainder of the year. Students and community members are therefore asked to keep off the dirt areas at each end of the new building, as we wait for grass to grow and new fencing to be installed. An official opening ceremony will be held at a future date.

Specialist Excursions Next Week

Two specialist excursions have been booked for next week to enrich our students’ learning.  Students in Years 3-6 will be visiting the National Gallery of Victoria on Monday, and students in Foundation to Year 2 will be visiting the Melbourne Museum and IMAX on Wednesday.  Permission notes have been sent home and must be returned by Friday (tomorrow).  All students are expected to attend these excursions, and wear correct school uniform, including a school hat.

Year 3-6 will meet at 9:00am at Sunshine Station (Platform 1) on Monday, and are to be picked up at 3:00pm from Sunshine Station (Platform 2).  Foundation – Year 2 students will travel by bus from the school and back.  ALL students must bring their lunch, snacks and water in a refillable bottle, in a plastic bag labelled with their name and homegroup (NO schoolbags).  There will not be any opportunity to purchase food, drinks or other items on the day.

Regional Athletics Carnival

A small group of students represented Glengala PS at the Regional Athletics Carnival on Tuesday this week: Enjoy, Mischa, Freya, Peace, Hezron, Eitini, Hosea, Dylan and Jana.  These students are to be commended for their sportsmanship and competitive efforts, and made excellent ambassadors for our school.  Well done to all students!

NAPLAN

The 2019 NAPLAN results have been released, and a NAPLAN Report is now available for each student in Year 3 and 5 who participated in the testing.  Parents are welcome to come to the office to pick up their child’s report.  Please note that these reports will not be mailed home, as per NAPLAN regulations.

Foundation 2020 Enrolment and Transition Sessions

Enrolments for Foundation 2020 are closing soon.  Families are strongly encouraged to submit enrolment forms for their child before the end of Term 3 to avoid being placed on a waiting list for enrolment.  Our transition program for current kindergarten students will commence on Tuesday October 29th at 2:15pm. During these sessions, students will meet teachers at the school, will participate in literacy and numeracy activities and meet new friends.  These sessions are a vital part of your child’s start to school, and we look forward to welcoming you and your child into our Glengala family.
