Reading Benchmarking
It was with great excitement that we analysed the progress our students are making in reading. Clearly, the hard work of staff, the efforts of students and support of parents has paid off, with the vast majority of students across the school showing excellent growth or consolidation of their reading skills and strategies. You are always welcome to come in and discuss your child’s progress at any time of the year; either before or after school, however please remember to book an appointment to make sure it is a suitable time for all. Remember to keep reading over the holiday break – just 15 minutes a day makes a positive difference in your child’s skills!
Enrolments 2020
Planning for next year has well and truly started and is a complex process, requiring accurate information. Learning Spaces, number of staff, specialist programs and all budget areas are based on student numbers. If you know your child is not returning to Glengala PS in 2020 (other than current Year 6 students), please notify the office in writing as soon as possible or return the slip in the newsletter. Notification is required in writing to the office, not verbally through the Learning Space teachers. Additionally if you have a child or know of someone with a child due to commence school in 2020, please complete an enrolment form as soon as possible so that we can add you to the students already enrolled to begin with us next year.
Office Admin – Term 4 Update
Over the coming school break we will be moving our Office Admin facilities into the new building. This will mean the Front Office, Sickbay and Principal Team will be in the Main Building from the beginning of term. Additionally, from Monday 7th of October we will have access back through our main entry gate on Kermeen St. This will mean Mudford St & Talintyre Rd gates will only be open from 8.45am- 9:00am and 3:00 pm -3.30pm for drop off and pick up times. At this stage we have no dates regarding moving our F-2 students, and they will remain in the portables for the start of Term 4.
Staffing News
On Monday we concluded our recruitment process for ongoing positions at our school. I’m pleased to announce that Milly Pham secured an ongoing position after successfully completing an application and interview through a merit based selection process for the position. We’re also happy to have secured Rania Tadros, Rita Batras and Vin McCarthy in 12 month positions for 2020. We will confirm staffing for 2020 as it is completed, with a full staffing list released in December.
Updated Contact Details
We ask that parent/guardians please ensure that they can be contacted by mobile and that contact details are up to date. Lately many calls made by the school go unanswered, the number on record is incorrect and a message can’t be left meaning we have very limited options when we urgently need to speak to you regarding your child. Details can be updated via Compass or visiting the front office between 8.40am and 4pm Monday to Friday.
End of Term – Friday 20th September – 1.40pm FINISH
Where did Term 3 go? It’s hard to believe but tomorrow is the last day of Term 3, and what a jam-packed term it proved to be! Being the last day of term we finish earlier, with our recess break finishing at 2.15pm our students will actually finish school for the term at 1.40pm. Please ensure arrangements have been made for your children to be collected early on this day or booked into Kelly Club for After School Care.
School Security
We seek your assistance in discouraging any people who may misuse our grounds over the holidays. If you happen to notice any person on our school grounds that are engaging in any type of dangerous or destructive behaviour please do not hesitate to call the police on 000 immediately.
Finally, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a restful and safe break. We look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday 7th October ready for Term 4.
