Glengala Gazette – Issue #30

Welcome back to Term 4. It’s been great to hear about our communities break from school ready for our busy final term of 2017. With Prep–Yr 2 sleepover, Art Expo, Year 6 Graduation, Christmas Carols and many other activities, plus with the beginning of our exciting rebuild it promises to be another action packed term at Glengala!

Enrolments 2018

Planning for next year has well and truly started and is a complex process, requiring accurate information.  Numbers of staff, specialist programs and all budget areas are based on student numbers.  If you have a child or know of someone with a child due to commence school in 2018 please complete an enrolment form as soon as possible as places are filling fast. Additionally if you know your child is not returning to Glengala PS in 2018 (other than our current Year 6 students), please notify the school as soon as possible.  Notification is required in writing to the office, not verbally through Learning Space teachers. While we still have a term of 2017 to go we’re already looking forward to a HUGE 2018 with our brand new buildings set to open early in the year.

Rebuild Update – New Buildings

Planning is moving forward on the exciting rebuild.  We have had visits with architects and planners.  We will continue to keep our community informed as plans progress.

Staffing News

During the term break and the first week of term we concluded our recruitment process for an ongoing Business Manager at our school. I’m pleased to announce that Kellie Dunstan secured this position after successfully completing the merit based process.

Freaky Friday – Year 6 Graduation Fundraiser

Tomorrow our community are asked to dress up in a Freaky Friday themed costume and bring a gold coin donation to help raise funds for our Year 6 Graduation. There will also be a guess the number jar for anyone interested in potentially winning a jar full of treats! This will be the first of a few Year 6 Graduation fundraisers organised and run by the Year 6 students & the Graduation committee we ask that you support this & future events.

Friday Open Hour

We hope to see many families join us each Friday from 2.15pm for our weekly Open Hour. Open Hour allows families an insight into the teaching and learning undertaken in our Learning Spaces. Our students love the opportunity to share their learning with you. You’re invited to attend and stay for the whole hour, with the last 30 minutes spent at our weekly celebration assembly.

SunSmart Reminder

Our school is an official SunSmart School. Students are required to wear a school hat whenever they are outside between 9am-3.15pm from the beginning of September through to the end of April. Please ensure that your child has their school hat and check that it is clearly labelled with their name. If your child’s school hat can’t be found, school hats can be purchased from the office from $5. Students who don’t have a school hat will be required  to sit in the alcove during lunch and recess times and will not be allowed to participate in outdoor activities. It certainly is more fun to have a hat on!

If you have questions, feedback or are experiencing any difficulties please don’t hesitate to give Sam or myself a call, send us an email or come and have a chat.
