NAPLAN Success
We would like to take this opportunity to celebrate the wonderful work of our students and staff in preparing and undertaking NAPLAN in May. This year we have some wonderful news and success to share. We have the best data in 5 years for our Year 3 students, in the top 2 bands. Our NAPLAN Reading Growth data is the best in our local schools network. This means that our students grow more than any others in year 3 to year 5, in Reading, than any other schools in our local network. This is such wonderful news to share. We pride ourselves on not emphasising the stress of NAPLAN for the students; putting it into perspective, it is one tool the education system use to track school improvement over time, and that is how we like to use it. This is why we celebrate when we can see the work and care our staff put into supporting and growing our students as individuals and life long learners.
Rebuild Information
We are still in a holding pattern for further information on Stage 2 of our rebuild. We will let you know as soon as we have information to share.
COMPASS
We have access to a fantastic online communication tool, COMPASS, which enables us to have a 1-stop-shop for our school-home communication needs. If you don’t already have access to COMPASS, feel free to come to the office and ask for your unique username and password. End of year student reports will be made available directly through COMPASS during the last week of term. If you require a printed report, you will need to request this through the office before the end of term.
Foundation 2019 Transition – COMMENCES NEXT WEEK
Next Tuesday we have our first Foundation Transition session for our 2019 Foundation students and families. This session will run from 2.15pm—3:15pm. The 2019 Foundation students will spend time with their teachers, leadership and other school support staff to engage in our 6 week Familiarisation Program. We pride ourselves on one of the most supportive and extensive Transition Programs available in our network, offering free sessions and initial school engagement assessments. Bookings are advised. If you know someone who is still considering their options for school in 2019, please encourage them to make contact as soon as possible.
Planning for 2019
We are currently finalising staffing and resource placement for 2019. In order to plan and prepare appropriately we need to know if you are planning on moving house or are aware of any circumstances that may affect your child’s enrolment—please contact us as soon as possible. If you are aware of new students intending on coming to Glengala who have not yet been to visit us please let us know as soon as possible.
Bunnings BBQ – Volunteers Needed Saturday 17th November
It is that time of year again and the School Council would like your help by volunteering some time to help out at the BBQ at Bunnings Sunshine for a hour or so on Saturday 17th November. Please come and see us in the office to volunteer to help raise funds for our great school.
Foundation – Year 2 Sleepover and Excursion Next Week
We have excitement growing in our Foundation and 1/2 Learning Spaces as they look forward to their Melbourne Museum excursion and Sleepover. Permission forms and information were sent out with students and are needed back ASAP so that catering can be arranged. This is such a fun time of the school year, and we thank you for your support in preparing your children for the first stage of our Camping program.
