I enjoyed spending Monday with our staff focusing on some of the Department of Education High Impact Teaching Strategies. What I liked most about this day was that the knowledge and expertise of our staff were demonstrated as this session was planned and delivered by four of our staff – Edith, Josie, Paul & Sarah. We hope that our community enjoyed the extra- long weekend our student free day and Melbourne Cup public holiday created.
Prep – Yr. 2 Sleepover
Tonight Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students will eagerly return to school at 5.30pm to join in the fun of our annual sleepover. Every student I’ve seen this week has had a big smile on their face and haven’t stopped talking about it! Check out next week’s newsletter to see all the fun students have!
2018 Enrolments
If you know of any families who may be interested in enrolling at our wonderful school please encourage them to contact the school as soon as possible as we have limited places remaining for 2018. If you are planning on relocating at the end of this year and not returning to Glengala Primary School please let the school know by completing an exit slip at the office by Friday 24th of November.
2018 Transition
Last week we welcomed our 2018 Prep students for their first transition visit to Glengala PS. It was terrific meeting our newest students and hearing their stories about kinder and their excitement about joining our school in 2018. Every Friday afternoon in November we will also be having whole school transition sessions to allow students to step up into their Learning Space groupings for 2018. This will be a great opportunity for students to experience what it will be like in their 2018 Learning Space, complete transition activities and begin building relationships with a new group of students. Once 2018 staffing has been finalised we will hold a final session where students will meet their 2018 Learning Spaces teachers.
November Book Fair – “Rainforest Reading”
Our second and final book fair for the year is on next week, from November 13th to 17th. The Book Fair theme is “Rainforest Reading”, we wont be having a dress up day for this book fair but will be holding special themed activities throughout the week. We will also be running a “Buy a Book for the School” session during book fair where we encourage families to buy a book for our Library Learning Centre. All books donated through this program will have a thank you message inside the cover thanking the family who donated the book to our Library.
Parents and caregivers are very powerful figures in influencing the behaviours and attitudes of their children. If you have questions, feedback or are experiencing any difficulties please don’t hesitate to give Sam or myself a call, send us an email or come and have a chat.
