I enjoyed spending Monday learning about speech and language with staff and our school based Speech Therapist Laura. We then worked in teams in the afternoon creating numeracy proficiency scales. We hope that our community enjoyed the extra-long weekend our student free day and Melbourne Cup public holiday created.
Music—Count Us In
Today all Glengala PS students and staff joined over 600,000 students from across Australia in singing the song ‘Let it Play’ at the same time. Students have been learning and rehearsing for the special event throughout the term, with many students now planning to write and enter their own songs for possible selection in 2017!
Prep – Yr. 2 Sleepover
Tonight Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students will eagerly return to school at 5.30pm to join in the fun of our annual sleepover. Every student I’ve seen this week has had a big smile on their face and haven’t stopped talking about it! Check out next week’s newsletter to see all the fun students have!
World Teachers’ Day
Last Friday we showed our appreciation for our wonderful teachers by celebrating World Teachers’ Day. Celebrated in over 100 countries, World Teachers’ Day acknowledges multi-skilled professionals who lead our children in learning, their efforts in an increasingly complex, multicultural and technological society. It is a day on which children, parents and community members can demonstrate their appreciation for the contributions that teachers have made to their community. School Council provided lunch and a gift voucher for teachers on behalf of our whole community to celebrate World Teachers’ Day. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you on behalf of our staff; it was a great way to celebrate the day.
Next week we welcome our 2017 Prep students for their first transition visit to Glengala PS. It will be terrific meeting our newest students and hearing their stories about kinder and their excitement about joining our school in 2017. Every Friday afternoon in November we will also be having whole school transition sessions to allow students to step up into their Learning Space groupings for 2017. This will be a great opportunity for students to experience what it will be like in their 2017 Learning Space, complete transition activities and begin building relationships with a new group of students. Once 2017 staffing has been finalised we will hold a final session where students will meet their 2017 Learning Spaces teachers.
Parents and caregivers are very powerful figures in influencing the behaviours and attitudes of their children. If you have questions, feedback or are experiencing any difficulties please don’t hesitate to give me a call, send me an email or come and have a chat.
