Glengala Gazette – Issue #35

Newsletter Transition to Digital Newsletter ONLY

The Newsletter will be going completely digital in December. In order to become more sustainable and reduce our recycling and waste production, also in part in response to the increased recycling issues in our community and to become more environmentally aware, we will be ceasing printing the newsletter.  Families will continue to receive the newsletter weekly on COMPASS and on our website.

Victorian School Building Authority School Design Awards 2019

We would like to take this opportunity to celebrate the recognition that our school recently received as a finalist for the VBSA 2019 School Design Awards.  Our Stage 1 (3-6 Learning Space) architect Angelucci Architects was awarded a finalist position (top 3 in the state) for their work on the design, vision and suitability for this stage of our building works. It was fabulous to have the opportunity to represent the school at this function and accept our award on your behalf.

Film Festival Success

Congratulations to Ameera and Chellyne-Hope who recently were awarded First Place in the Sunshine Short Film Festival in the Primary School section for their drama company’s entry!  A very entertaining short film based around our beautiful area and how to make it more appealing with a very dramatic twist.  Great job from our very talented students.

COMPASS – Time to request a printed copy of end of year report

We have access to a fantastic online communication tool COMPASS which enables us to have a 1-stop-shop for our school-home communication needs.  If you don’t already have access to COMPASS, feel free to come to the office and ask for your unique Username and Password for access.  End of year student reports will be made available directly through COMPASS during the last week of term.  If you require a printed report, you will need to request this through the office before the end of term.

Reminder regarding personal property

The Department (which includes our school) does not have accident insurance.  Items of personal property that are lost, stolen or damaged at school are not the responsibility of Glengala Primary School or the Department. Staff and students are reminded not to bring items of value to school.  Parents are urged to include items of value on their own household insurance policies or seek advice regarding personal insurance to cover any items which may travel outside of your house.

Planning for 2020

We are currently finalising staffing and resource placement for 2020. In order to plan and prepare appropriately we need to know if you are planning on moving house, or are aware of new students intending on coming to Glengala who have not yet been to visit us.  Please let us know, as soon as possible, if you are aware of any changes to your circumstances that may affect your child’s enrolment.
