Glengala Gazette – Issue #8

End of Term 1!

Term One has already come to an end, and we finish tomorrow for the Term 1 holidays! Please note that school will finish at 1.40 pm.  Please ensure that you pick up your child at the dismissal time, or book them into our after school program with Kelly Club.  Term Two will begin on TUESDAY April 18th, as Monday is a public holiday for Easter.

Free Dress Day

Tomorrow is a free dress day to celebrate the end of term.  Please ensure that your child wears closed-toe shoes and has covered shoulders, to ensure they are protected from the sun.

New SSSO Officer – Psychologist

We are pleased to welcome our new SSSO Psychologist, Nevine Cunningham, to our school.  Nevine has extensive experience as a school psychologist in Scotland.  We are looking forward to working with her to conduct student assessments as part of the Program for Students with Disabilities, as well as to establish care programs for our P-2 students, and student wellbeing inititives focussed on students in Years 3-6.  Nevine will generally attend school on Tuesdays, alongside our Speech Pathologist Nyssa Johnson.

Year 5/6 High School Taster Day

Last week our Year 5 and 6 students attended Sunshine Secondary School for a ‘taster day’ of life as a high school student. Students were split into small groups, and tried a range of different classes, including music, science and woodwork.  Year 6 students will receive their documents for Year 7 Transition in the first week of Term 2.  Please feel free to talk to myself, Reem or Josie if you would like further information about Secondary School choices for your child.

Library Learning Centre Update

We are excited about recent progress in the Library Learning Centre.  All furniture has now been delivered and installed, and the building has been cleaned and freshly painted.  We have adopted a new cataloguing system, and are now beginning the process of adding our resources onto the new system, as well as barcoding and covering new books.  We are looking forward to having a grand opening of the Library Learning Centre during Term 2 – stay tuned next term for more details.

1/2 Learning Space Publishing Celebration

This week students in our 1/2 Learning Space celebrated the publication of their very first  books, with a publishing party.  The students have worked hard on developing their writing, drafting, revising, editing, and seeking feedback to improve their narrative writing pieces.  Their books are currently on display in front of the office – you’re welcome to come and look through their books and share their fantastic efforts!

Dental Van Service

From May 10th to 15th, we will be hosting a visit from the Dental Van service, who will be checking our students teeth and oral health.  Students who need additional dental care (for example treatment for cavities) can participate in a follow up visit in June.  Further information and permission forms will be sent home early in Term Two for your child to participate in the program.  Please feel free to get in touch with me if you have any questions about the program.

As always, if you have any feedback, questions or concerns, please feel free to contact myself, Kris or Sam Fleming.
