Year 6 Secondary School Application Information Session

We are offering a Parent Information Session on Tuesday 1st May on the process for completing applications for secondary school for 2019. Please note that Term 2 has many opportunities for parents and students to attend open days, tours and information sessions at our local Secondary Schools.  We would encourage you to contact any secondary schools you are thinking of applying for to ask questions and gather further information. We are hoping to have some representatives from local secondary schools present to answer any questions you have.

Sunshine Secondary College Information Session – Tuesday 24th April at the Ardeer Campus

NAPLAN

This term the annual Australian wide NAPLAN Testing will be undertaken in Week 5 and 6 of term.  There are two forms of NAPLAN; paper based assessment and an online assessment.  All schools are transitioning to the Online Assessment which is on target to be fully functional in 2019.  Glengala will be participating in the Online NAPLAN this year, as we have in aspects since 2016.  The Year 3 Writing Assessment will be undertaken in the traditional paper based format. There will be a parent NAPLAN information session on Thursday 3rd May.  If you do not wish your child to participate in NAPLAN please ensure you attend the information session and complete the necessary paperwork within the next two weeks.

Remember this is one snapshot of your child’s learning at one time, for one day in their learning journey.

Australian Early Development Census – Foundation Students Only

Every 4 years the Australian Government undertake a census of the childhood development of students in their first year of schooling.  This data is used to improve the provision of services to families and children prior to the commencement of school in our area.  The data is de-identified which means that student names and personal information is not recorded in the publicly release data.  The school does not receive reports or feedback on individual students.  Louise, Rania and Sam will undertake a questionnaire for each child regarding observations based on 5 areas; Physical Health and Wellbeing, Social Competence, Emotional Maturity, Language and Cognitive Skills and Communication Skills and General Knowledge.  If you do not wish your child to be included in the census you are required to opt-out.  This can be done simply by speaking to Sam, Louise or Rania.  The census begins on the 1st May, so please speak to us before this date.

Rebuild Information – IT IS HERE!

The building arrived on the holidays.  It has been incredible to watch it take shape.  Even though the building itself is here, the next few months will be spent fitting it out, connecting it to services and linking it to the landscape.  Such an engineering marvel!
