WELCOME BACK KRIS!
Next week Kris will return from his well-deserved and well-travelled Long Service Leave. I thank all the students, staff and community for your support during my time as Acting Principal. I’m sure you will join us in giving Kris a warm welcome next week.
Please note we have some very territorial families of crows, magpies and plovers around the school at the moment. There are some birds nesting in the gum trees at the front entrance, on Kermeen St. These birds are swooping as their new young begin to learn to fly. In order to stay safe when moving around these areas follow these helpful tips;
- Wear a hat or helmet, carry a stick or umbrella above your head
- Walk quickly through the area
- Dismount off bicycles and walk them in, do not ride in these areas
CELEBRATING DIVERSITY – RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY AND SAFETY
Here at Glengala we are very proud of our cultural diversity and celebrate the differences between our students, staff and community. We expect our staff, students and community to interact demonstrating our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Safety. Underpinning these values we also have expectations of honesty and a commitment to build trust with each other. Our first interaction with students when they may be reacting with emotion is to ask, “Are you safe?” Are you being Respectful?” “Are you being Responsible?” When students are responding with emotion they can behave in disrespectful, unsafe or irresponsible ways. By using questions which guide the student towards more positive or acceptable behaviours we aim to support them to act in Safe, Respectful and Responsible ways. We are also trialing a new behavior ladder as part of the School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) strategies to direct and guide students through their emotions, and safe, respectful and responsible ways of acting.
NAPLAN RESULTS – Please collect from the front office
If you have not yet done so, students in years 3 and 5 individual NAPLAN assessment results are now available for parents to personally collect from the office. These results are not able to be handed out to students or posted.
eSmart WEEK PARENT INFORMATION SESSION – Thank you
Thank you to those families who came to our Parent Information Session on Monday. It was great to see such a supportive turn out.
SWIMMING CONTINUING NEXT WEEK – Timetable included further in the newsletter
Please ensure all clothing is labelled with student’s name to enable a speedy return for lost items. Parents are welcome to attend swimming at the Sunshine Leisure Centre.
The change in the weather often means our students are wearing layers to school which then get removed throughout the day. Often children remove jumpers whilst on the move, and we have a large selection of lost uniforms. If you are missing a jumper/s, or winter jacket, please come and look through the box located at the front office. We attempt to return all named items directly to students.
2019 ENROLMENTS & SCHOOL TOURS
Enrolment Tours are every week Thursday 9.15am. Please call the office to book a place.
As always, if you have any concerns or celebrations you wish to share please come and see myself or Kris any time.
